In 1995, Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche introduced his American students to Natural Liberation, a profound text by the eighth-century founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Padmasambhava. This work explores the six bardos, or intermediate states of life and death. Following this, Gyatrul Rinpoche invited Lama Bruce Newman to teach the text on several occasions, and he will endeavor to do so during this weekend retreat at Gomde California.

During this weekend retreat, we will engage with Guru Rinpoche’s instructions through guided meditations, primarily focusing on the bardo of this life. We will also incorporate additional meditations from other sections of the Terma or Treasure Text. Lama Bruce aims to make the teachings accessible to everyone while maintaining their timeless depth. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions.

While purchasing the text is recommended, it is not required.

This retreat welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and levels of experience—no prior knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism is necessary. Reviewing the book in advance is encouraged, and it can be purchased online here: https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Liberation-Padmasambhavas-Teachings-Bardos/dp/0861711319
